Woolshed Cave

On our way to Baird Bay from Coffin Bay we stopped off at one of the amazing cave and rock formations on that coast - we chose Woolshed Cave. It was down a very rough, unpaved road and the steps down to it were broken and almost unusable, so it's clearly not a top tourist priority, but it was beautiful all the same and we had fun scrabbling over the rocks and checking out the many deep rock pools. 

Coffin Bay - Part 1

Just around the peninsula from Port Lincoln is Coffin Bay. It was perhaps my favourite spot on the trip to date. The highlight for me was the oyster farm tour I did with Zoe. We got to put on waders, wade out into the bay to a picnic table set up in the water, sit in the water listening to how oysters are farmed and then shuck and eat our own oysters at the table.  Sadly, as Zoe didn’t like the taste, I had to eat hers too... She is now a master oyster shucker now though!

The other highlights for all of us were the emus and kangaroos in our campground. In fact, in the night I got up to go to the bathroom and when I opened the caravan door I literally almost stepped onto a kangaroo. It was magical seeing at least ten kangaroos silently grazing around our van in the moonlight. We’ve had quite a few campsites with lots of kangaroos since then but this was the first, and therefore the most exciting. I thought they would be spooked as soon as they saw me, but in fact they just stared at me calmly. The next morning we also had an emu calmly stroll past the camper van  as we were eating breakfast – we all loved that.
