We decided to do a road trip to Sydney and Canberra while we still had a car and not a camper van. We took the coast road up from Flinders and spent a couple of nights en route to break up the drive. Our first stop was Eden - a small fishing port about five hours from Flinders. We stayed in a cabin in a campground that was a short walk from the - empty! - beach. The weather was cool and rainy but it didn't stop the fun in the surf for Toby and Zoe - and the waves were big! They swamped little Zoe at times. For dinner we had some of the best fish'n'chips we've ever had - it was so fresh. We could even go to the harbour behind the shop to see the boat that had caught the fish. The perks of staying in a fishing town.
The next day we drove to Surf Beach a little further up the coast via Pambula and Merimbula. And we saw our first kangaroos of the trip in Pambula! I don't think you could really say 'in the wild' since they were just in a paddock and not really doing very much, but it still felt like a significant moment on our Australian travels.
Wait until Toby's film for pictures of some of the big waves |
Ugh - another person on the beach. I hate when that happens. |
We did notice a couple of dead 'bluebottles' on the beach - definitely to be avoided in the water |
The walk to the beach |
Enjoying a Bundaberg traditional lemonade - not to be confused with Bundaberg rum (or a 'Bundy') which is also a typical Aussie drink (but of a different kind...) |
Fish'n'chips from the source |
Yum - just watch out for diving seagulls |
Checking out the crabs in Snug Harbour |
