Wind in the Willows

Last Saturday, before we headed down to Flinders and the beach house on the Mornington Peninsula we took part in a Melbourne tradition: we went to see a production of 'Wind in the Willows' in Melbourne's Botanical Gardens. The location was magical. It's been running for more than 30 years now and parents who saw it as kids are now bringing their kids etc. It was so much fun as the play moved spots (from the riverbank to Toad Hall) and the performers are all part of the Royal Shakespeare Company and so were terrific. It was like a really energetic pantomime with lots of audience participation - Weasel and Toad were particularly fantastic. We loved it.

The day started cloudy and cool but soon warmed up

What a location

Everyone brings a picnic - and the actors had a great time wandering around the crowd picking out the best food to steal. A lot of strawberries were eaten...

Rabbit came and sat down next to Indie without her noticing - it was hilarious when she looked over (thinking it was Zoe) and jumped in surprise.

Lots of singing and dancing and general japes - great fun

Mr Toad being absolutely Mr Toad-ish
