Mount Gambier

We can’t remember now what prompted us to visit Mount Gambier (I think  it was for the wine region and also it is close to some good caves and it is the second largest city in South Australia) but we didn’t really do much there. It was fun to see Blue Lake, which sits in the crater of a fairly young volcano (and our caravan park was right beside it) but that was about all we did. It was very hot – for the first time in a long time – and we were all happy to stay put, swim in the pool and generally catch our breath. We did check out a fabulous playpark built by the old railway station on our way out of town, and despite the 35+ degree heat, we had a great time playing on some of the 'natural' structures that were designed to be climbed.

More great playground sculptures! Australia has some fabulous and inventive playgrounds

Big ants

We had a timed competition on the tree stumps course, and for the first time, Toby couldn't beat Indie! It seems we must return to Mount Gambier on our journey back so Toby can try to retake his crown.
