After Mount Gambier we drove to Beachport via the Tantanoola Cave. Wow. I've never been in a cave like it – it was filled with stalactites and stalacmites and other spectacular cave ‘ornaments’. Breathtaking. You can only go in with the tour guide, but then you are allowed to stay as long as you like. Since it was over 36 degrees that day, the 17 degree cave was a welcome relief. The pictures don't do it justice. And, as an added bonus, we all now know how stalactites and stalacmites are formed…I believe there will be a short film from the girls coming about the history of the cave.
The cave ornament on the right was called 'the wedding cake' |
